This video turned out decent, but it threw me a few curveballs. I generally shoot 720p 24fps, but I switched over to 30fps, figuring it’d be more TV-friendly for media. I later discovered that in 30-frame mode, the camera actually shoots 24 frames and drops all audio (strange camera glitch?) At the time, I thought maybe it was a P2 card issue, so I shot some of the video (stand-up and final 3 shots) onto tape, in standard definition (thus the quality change). Also, none of the nat sound during the HD sequences is real live audio. (I pulled a bunch of audio from the standard definition b-roll.)

Avoid junk mail for the next five years (for free)

Every day, I spend too much time sorting my mail into trash, recycling, and shredding piles. I sign up for e-bills when I can, and I’m always looking for additional ways to cut down on paper usage and save myself time and effort.
Five years ago, I used optoutprescreen.com, a free service run by the credit agencies and approved by the FTC, to prevent credit card offers from landing in my mailbox. It worked very well, but the temporary 5-year hold on those offers has ended, so I signed up again today.
I also learned about DMAChoice.org today. Another free service, provided by the Direct Marketing Association and approved by the Illinois Attorney General, this website lets you opt out of catalogs, magazine offers, and general junk solicitations from companies.

Sea to Shining Sea
Traveling to the D.C. area tonight to shoot some video of the final week of a cross-country bike ride made up of several disabled veterans. They started in San Francisco, and about two months later, they’re a few hundred miles from Virginia Beach. I’ll be in Emmitsburg, MD, Washington, DC, Virginia Beach, and everywhere in between this week. You can see more about the ride at http://s2ssbikeride.org, but if I do my job well, you’ll catch some video on national television news outlets.
